Pet Ornaments
The face at the edge of every family photograph, the name on the stocking, and the small Christmas habits that belong to one particular animal.
Pets enter Christmas before anyone orders an ornament. The dog waits beneath the wrapping table for dropped paper. The cat claims the empty decoration box. A stocking appears low on the mantel, and someone writes a familiar name across it. The ornament gathers one of those lives into a face, a name, and a year.
A breed design begins with the outline: dachshund, golden retriever, German shepherd, black cat. A portrait begins with the actual eyes, markings, ears, and expression in a photograph. I would choose the portrait when those details are the reason everyone recognizes the animal, and a simpler breed or name design when the silhouette already says enough.
Use the year for a puppy, kitten, adoption, or first Christmas home. Put the pet in the family row when their name belongs with everyone else’s. For an animal who has died, the memorial pages slow down and help with photographs, years, and quieter wording.
