The name and dates are enough. They leave room for the face, handwriting, symbol, or quiet place the ornament will hold on the tree. If you want one line as well, choose words the family already uses and can still read as true in ten years. Forty options are grouped here by relationship and tone.
First, the dates
The full span, "1950-2022," is the traditional format. Some people find the second date hard to look at every December, and there are gentler versions: the name with only the birth year, the name alone, or dates moved to the back of the piece. Any wording below works with any of these.
