First Christmas Together Ornaments

Some couples count from the first date. Others mean the December when two stockings appeared in the same home, or the year they finally stopped splitting Christmas Day between separate plans. The right year is the one the two of you already mean when you say “our first Christmas.”

Put that year beside the names and the ornament has everything it needs. A photograph, a shared address, or the pet that made you a household can make it more personal, but none of them has to prove when the relationship began.

Decide what “first” means to you

There is no official milestone behind “first Christmas together.” It can mean the first Christmas after you started dating, the first one you celebrated in the same place, or the first year you chose to mark as a couple. If two different years come to mind, say the finished wording aloud. “Our first Christmas, 2026” should sound like something both of you recognize.

An “est.” date is slightly different. It points back to the beginning of the relationship, while “our first Christmas” points to one particular December. Those dates may match, but they do not have to. Use only one if displaying both would make the ornament read like a form.

What to write on the ornament

First names keep the wording close and uncomplicated. A shared surname can wait until it actually belongs to the story. If you use a nickname every day, use it here too; the ornament will spend more time with the two of you than with anyone checking formal names.

The ampersand, plus sign, and word “and” each change the tone a little. So do block lettering and script. Choose the version that looks like the rest of your home, not the one that seems most formal in the preview.

A photograph from that December

The photograph does not need mistletoe or matching sweaters. A phone picture from the first shared kitchen, a walk with the dog, or the evening you brought the tree home can hold more of that year than a posed holiday portrait. Choose an image in which both faces remain clear after it is cropped into a circle, heart, or arch.

If neither of you enjoys photographs, use a place instead. A small house, apartment number, city map, or coordinates can remember where the first Christmas happened without turning the ornament into a portrait.

Together, engaged, or married

“Together” keeps the focus on the relationship without adding a title. If the proposal is the part of this year you want to remember, an engagement ornament can carry the proposal date or place. If you married this year, “first Christmas married” brings the wedding into the wording. The designs may look similar; the difference is which part of the year you want the tree to keep.

Giving one to a couple

Two first names and the year make the fewest assumptions. Check the spellings directly, especially if a name has more than one familiar form. A photograph should come from one of the couple rather than from a social-media screenshot, which may be too small for clean printing.

If you are unsure which year the couple counts as their first, leave out the word “first.” Their names with “Christmas 2026” still mark this season without deciding the timeline for them.

Choose a material that suits their tree

Ceramic gives photographs and color a smooth surface. Wood works well with engraved names, houses, and simple line art. Metal is light enough for a small tabletop tree, while glass reflects the lights and needs more careful storage. Check the finished dimensions as well as the material; the product photograph on a screen does not show how large the piece will feel in a hand.
